The imaging by a telescope of objects in the field of view in such a way that the plane in which the images lie is curved rather than flat. Although this may cause minor inconvenience for a visual observer, it is possible to compensate for curvature of the field in a photographic telescope by bending the plate or film to the appropriate shape in a special holder.
